HOLIDAY GREETINGS TO OUR DOCTORS & TEAM MEMBERS

We at LAS VEGAS ESTHETICS have enjoyed a very busy, productive and satisfying year and we thank you for the opportunity to assist in the care of your patients.  We are proud of our technicians whose artistry and commitment to excellence is evident in the quality of their finished restorations and prostheses.  As our Doctors are increasingly requesting CAD/CAM zirconium restorations, LAS VEGAS ESTHETICS has incorporated a new department dedicated to CEREC technology with an expert technician, Kim Garcia, charged with digital design and milling of zirconium restorations, permanent bridges and implant abutments.  To one who received his DDS several decades ago, this is pure MAGIC and I can only imagine how Dentistry of tomorrow will evolve.  With development of new products, techniques and technology, this is an exciting journey and we at LAS VEGAS ESTHETICS are dedicated to provide highest quality, dependability and fairness and we greatly appreciate your allowing us to be partners in the treatment of your patients.  Enjoy your Holidays and our BEST WISHES FOR A SUCCESSFUL 2012!

VEGAS, BABY!

Las Vegas, Nevada is no longer the hot, dusty railroad stop with barely 100 settlers.  Today, Las Vegas has evolved into a city of nearly two million and has become the Entertainment Capitol of the World with thousands of hotel rooms, hundreds of restaurants and entertainment venues to please every discriminating visitor.  We are honored to host the American Dental Association’s 152nd Annual Session October 10 to 13.  Mandalay Bay with it’s upscale property and acres of exhibition area, will provide lecture facilities and the WorldMarket Exhibition displaying thousands of dental products for your evaluation.

We at Las Vegas Esthetics Dental Laboratory welcome you to visit our facility to meet CEO Ray Foster, COO James Dodge, and our staff of 30 dental artists and support personnel.  Please call us (702-889-5081) if we might be of assistance providing any special services to enhance your ADA Convention experience.  One of my favorite dental associations was the “Flying Dentists”.  If you are flying in, we are just west of your right base leg to runway 30 at North Las Vegas Airport.  We look forward to meeting any of our doctors who find time to visit us.  Enjoy your Convention!

Enhancing Dental Impressions

Since joining the staff at Las Vegas Esthetics, I have enjoyed a rich educational experience.  I highly recommend all Dentists, especially recent Dental Graduates, to visit Las Vegas Esthetics Dental Laboratory to observe the working lab and to meet and exchange ideas and concepts.  It’s nice for us to greet you and you can put a “face” on the waxers and ceramists who are your silent partners.

Today’s busy Dentists restore complex cases and your expertise and time constraints require a technical team as committed to excellence as you.  While I had time in my general practice to trim my own dies, in this modern era we trust our technician, Bryce, who is truly a master at reading and trimming margins.

A recent study reports 89% of Dental Impressions have flaws which, depending upon location and extent, can compromise restorative treatment.  These include bubbles, voids, blood and fluid contaminants, tears and tray impingement.  Many imperfections are visible only after the impression is poured.  It is estimated that triple trays are used for 90% of all impressions.  A patient biting hard into the impression material and then relaxing can cause flexing, a problem which may not be evident until the finished restoration fails to seat.

A few words on gingival retraction: The most common technique has been the use of #000 retraction cords (with or without 25% aluminum chloride) lining the gingival sulcus scalloped contours and protecting the gingival attachment.  A second #00 cord may be required to visualize the entire gingival margin.  Today, Dentists have a better choice of styptic products to simplify retraction and control bleeding and fluid contamination: Racegel (Septodont); Traxodent (Premier); Expasyl (Kerr) have proved to be easily incorporated, successful and gentle with the gingivae.  (You know a periodontist has to put a plug in for the periodontium……)

Please mark your calendars for our evening Astra Tech Implant Courses for Doctors & Staff: September 8, 2011, October 6, 2011, and November 10th, 2011.  Click and/or call for more information.

Arnold K. Webster, DDS, MS – An Introduction

This blogger is a new face at Las Vegas Esthetics Dental Laboratory: Arnold Webster, DDS, MS.  I’m a Dentist with 41 years of Practice Experience – 17 years as a General Dentist and 24 years in Periodontics.  One of my interests is Continuing Education for our Dentists and Laboratory Technicians.  Las Vegas Esthetics has scheduled a fall series of 3 Seminars entitled “Mastering the Art and Science of Implant Dentistry” which will be presented by Astra Tech Dental on the following dates: September 8, 2011, October 6, 2011, and November 10, 2011.  Please call or click here for further information and give us a call to make a reservation for you and your staff.  More about this series of courses in the next Las Vegas Esthetics Doctor Blog.

I’d like to address the subject of problem cases we have all occasionally experienced.  Any remake is a time killer, material waster, patient irritator and income loser.  All new cases at Las Vegas Esthetics Dental Laboratory are carefully examined by Ray Foster, Yin Garcia, Neely Brooks, James Dodge or myself before production begins.  Any questions will be addressed via telephone from one of us.  All cases receive careful monitoring as they progress through the lab with a final evaluation before the finished case is returned to your office.

Our next Doctor blog will address tooth preparations, impressions and tissue retraction techniques to enhance margin impressions and preservation of the delicate periodontium: or how to ensure beautiful, healthy, gingival margins years after restoring maxillary anteriors with crowns and veneers.  All of us at Las Vegas Esthetics appreciate the opportunity to assist you in providing your patients optimal Dental Care.
